ILLNESS AND SICK CARE
The health and well being of all the children in my care is of the utmost importance to me.
It is for the protection of your child that I must insist on a strict adherence to my health policy. Do not wait until your child is sick to think about what is best for all concerned. Even with all our precautions children get sick. Due to my concern for all the children enrolled there are certain guidelines that I require all clients to observe. In some cases you will be asked to submit a written report from the doctor before your child may return to daycare. This is to ensure that a child does not return to daycare when he or she may be in danger of exposing someone else to an illness. Some contagious illness are no longer contagious after the child has been on medication for 24 hours. I require that all children on new medication do not attend until the FULL 24 HOURS of medication have been given. There are a number of immunizations required by law before your child may attend child care. Please make sure that all immunizations are up to date.
If you are called to pick up your child because they are ill, a half hour will be given to pick up your child, your child will be resting on the sofa awaiting your arrival. If you or someone else is not here to pick up your child within 30 minutes the late fee will be charged.
ABSENSE OR ILLNESS
If your child will not be here for the day due to illness or for any other reason please call or text me in the morning to let me know. I appreciate the courtesy.

DISCIPLINE
The following methods of discipline will be used at Tonya’s Berry Patch:
Encourage children to solve the problem themselves
Intervention and discussion
Redirection
Loss of privileges
Quiet Time
If I feel that there is a chronic behavioral issue that needs attention I will let you know so that you and I are handling it in the same manner and the child then has continuity in their discipline. These types of behavior may include such things as biting, use of bad words, chronic hitting, intentional destruction of property etc.
Please be aware that we are mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse. If your child comes in with suspicious bruises and/or marks and I feel in any way that there is not a reasonable explanation for them, I am required by law to document, take pictures and report it immediately.
Expulsion/Suspension Policy
Unfortunately, there are sometimes reasons I have to expel or suspend a child from my program either on a short term or permanent basis. I want you to know that I will do everything possible to work with the family of the child(ren) in order to prevent this policy from being enforced. The following are reasons I may have to expel or suspend a child from this facility:
Suspension
Prior to expulsion, a parent will be called and correspondence will be sent home indicating what the problem is, and every effort will be made by both the facility and the parent to correct the problem. If, after one or two weeks, depending on the risk to other children’s welfare or safety, behavior does not improve, and the facility finds that they can no longer accommodate the child, the parent will be asked to remove him/her. The parent will be given a minimum of one week’s notice to find another facility to provide care for this child.
Immediate Causes for Expulsion
- The child is at risk of causing serious injury to other children or him/herself.
- Parent threatens physical or intimidating actions towards the child care provider.
- Parents exhibits verbal abuse to the child care provider in front of enrolled children.
- Failure to pay/habitual lateness in payments.
- Failure to complete required forms including the child’s immunization records.
- Habitual tardiness when picking up your child. Verbal abuse to the child care provider .
- Failure of child to adjust after a reasonable amount of time.
- Uncontrollable tantrums/angry outbursts.
- Ongoing physical or verbal abuse to the child care provider or other children.
- Excessive biting.
BIRTHDAYS
You may bring treats to celebrate your child’s birthday.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Please label your child’s belongings with their names. I am not responsible for replacing lost or broken toys. Children may bring no more than 1 toy per day.
Children will be expected to share anything they bring from home. If they just want to show and tell, the item will be kept in their bin for the remainder of the day. No toys that require batteries or that have multiple pieces or small parts will be allowed
Every child needs to have an extra change of clothes appropriate for the season.
i.e.; Winter gear, snow boots, snow pants, heavy coat, gloves/hat. Labeled with child’s name.
pants, shirt, underpants, socks
Infants/Toddlers:
Diapers/Pull-ups, Wipes (refill pack), Bottles (must be labeled).
Potty Training: I will not start the potty training process here until parents are willing to train full time at home. Your child will show signs of readiness; staying dry through naptime, showing interest in others going potty, hiding in a corner to go potty in diaper. I try to make potty training a positive experience at my facility. If I feel a child is not ready I will try again after a few days/weeks.
ACCIDENTS/INJURIES/MEDICAL BILLS
Every precaution is taken to ensure that no accidents and/or injuries happen and children are well supervised at all times. However, kids are kids and accidents do happen. NAP/QUIET TIME
All children that are not in school are required to lie down for nap/rest at 12:30pm. Older children are required to play outside, watch a movie, read a book or lie down quietly during this time. I provide blankets and pillows. Your child may bring a special blanket to nap with. Please remember to have it labeled.
I would ask that you avoid dropping off or picking your child up at nap time
12:30 - 2:30 as it disturbs the other children. If you must drop off or pick up during this time please send me a text or call as soon as possible so I can be prepared for the situation.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP
If you are having someone else pick up your child, I need to know in advance. I will need to know the name of the person and I will need to see ID if this is their 1st time picking your child up. I will not let a child leave without parental permission. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. This is a safety measure for your child. I am legally responsible for any child that would leave with an unauthorized person, therefore this rule is strictly enforced.

PARENTS GUIDE TO LICENSED CHILD CARE
Choosing care for your child is a significant decision.
When you entrust the care of your child to another person, you are making an important decision. Visit, ask questions and carefully compare several programs. Licensed care includes child care educational homes and centers. Your choice depends on what you want and need for your child.
Licensing is a key to quality child care.
It promotes good care by setting basic standards. Before a center or home is granted a child care license, it must meet health, safety, and program requirements. A Child Care Specialist from the Municipality of Anchorage visits and inspects the facility and investigates complaints. The goal of licensing is to prevent risks to children; however, licensing cannot guarantee that a facility meets all requirements at all times.
You as an informed parent are a key to quality child care
Parents are responsible for choosing and monitoring their child’s care. Licensors generally visit once a year, but you visit each time you take your child. Visit unexpectedly sometimes or in the middle of the day. Keep an eye on the quality of care. What do you see when you visit? Is the environment safe? Are caregivers capable and nurturing? How many children are present? Are meals nutritious? Are activities appropriate? Watch how your infant responds to the program and listen to what your child says. You are the person best able to decided whether child care meets your standards for safety, health, and quality.
If you have questions or concerns about your child’s care.
Discuss concerns with your caregiver. Talk to the caregiver if you observe health or safety problems or if you feel the program needs improvement. If you are still concerned, or if you believe children may be in danger or a standard is violated, contact your local licensing office. The licensing office will investigate your complaint.
